DENTAL FILLINGS

When a part of tooth structure is lost due to decay, injury or wear, you will be advised to have a dental filling on it. The purpose of the filling is to prevent the cavity from getting deeper, strengthen the tooth and reduce symptoms of pain or sensitivity. Depending on the size, extent and location of the cavity – different materials can be used to repair the tooth. Resins are tooth coloured (white) filling material which provide durable and aesthetically pleasing results. They also require less tooth removal for placement as compared to silver amalgam fillings. It costs less to prevent teeth decay than to repair them.

MISSING TEETH

A missing tooth can severely impact your overall health by not only affecting your smile and chewing ability, but also having an undesirable effect on the neighbouring teeth, which may tilt or drift into the gaps. Multiple missing teeth can also lead of loss of facial height and add to a more aged look.
We recommend replacing lost teeth as soon as possible. We offer a number of solutions in the form of denture, bridge or implants. During your assessment, we will go through the pros and cons of each option and suggest you the option that is most suited to your dental needs.

DENTAL BRIDGES

A dental bridge is a custom-made, fixed replacement for one or more missing teeth. It can be made to either match the appearance of your existing natural teeth so you can speak and smile in confidence or to improve your current state to a better occlusion. A bridge requires support from teeth that lie adjacent to the gap. It can therefore, only be made when these adjoining teeth are sound and strong. Presence of extensive dental restorations or gum problems on these teeth may require you to consider alternative replacement options such as dentures or implants. Dental bridges are a strong and long lasting replacement option for the right situation. It is often possible to chew normally with a bridge. If oral hygiene is maintained well, bridges can function for several years without any problem.

ROOT CANAL TREATMENT (RCT)

Every tooth has a nerve (pulp) in its centre that runs along its length all the way to the tip of the root. If the pulp becomes exposed to bacteria due to decay, injuries or deep fillings, it can get infected. This can cause a dental infection and lead to excessive pain and swelling. If untreated, it could also lead to an abscess or visible discoloration.
The purpose of root canal treatment or RCT is to prevent or remove the infection from within the tooth and surrounding bone by cleaning and disinfecting the root canal of the tooth by using fine instruments and anti-bacterial agents.
It may be possible to complete the treatment in one or two sessions, depending on the complexity of the case. Generally, the complexity increases as one moves from front tooth towards to the back.
Following completion of the root canal treatment, you may be advised to have a crown or cap on your tooth to reduce the risk of fracture.
If you have already had root canal treatment and are getting new infection, it may still be possible to save the tooth by undertaking a re – root canal treatment alone or in combination with a minor apical surgery to retain the teeth as much as possible.

PREVENTIVE DENTISTRY

Preventive Dentistry involves the prevention of oral diseases and the promotion of good oral health habits. Higher or frequent sugar consumption can increase the risk of dental decay irrespective of age. It is possible to reduce this risk by undertaking scientifically proven preventative measures such as regular application of fluoride varnish or sealing the grooves and fissures on the biting surfaces of teeth. This minimises bacterial building up in these hard to clean surfaces and prevent tooth decay.

PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY

Children acclimatize to the dental surroundings easily when they visit from an early age and minimize the development of dental anxiety. It also enables us to assess their teeth eruption patterns and instill good oral health habits early on.
We offer child-focused preventative treatments such as fluoride varnishes and fissure sealants to strengthen and protect their teeth from tooth decay.

DENTURES

Dentures are removable prosthesis that can be used to replace some or all missing teeth.
They can be made of acrylic, cobalt chrome or in a more flexible metal-free material for added comfort and improved aesthetics.
Dentures need to feel and function as your own teeth and we will take time to ensure they sit snugly upon the gums without the discomfort of rubbing.
Sometimes you may find it difficult to keep your denture in place due to changes in the jaw structure after tooth loss. In such cases, dental implants can be used to stabilise your existing denture.
Our dental laboratory delivers an unrivalled service to ensure a comfortable fit with any appliance we offer.

GUM HEALTH

Your gums are really important as they keep your teeth in their place. Some people live with bleeding gums but choose to ignore it. Often it is an early warning sign of gum disease which is fully treatable. If left untreated, gums can become sore and teeth can become loose and eventually lost. There is scientific evidence that gum disease can be associated with other health conditions such as heart problems or diabetes.
You should therefore visit the dentist regularly – at least annually to check for decay and gum disease amongst other things.

SMILE DENTISTRY

A smile makeover is the art of improving the appearance of a smile by altering the colour, size, shape or alignment of the teeth. This may involve tooth whitening, composite bonding, crowns, veneers or implants, either done alone or in combination.
Following your initial assessment, photographs and study models will be used to evaluate your smile & individual teeth and the least invasive method of achieving your desired smile will be recommended by your dentist. The treatment stages and fees will also be outlined. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions to help you make an informed choice.

EXTRACTIONS

Sometimes teeth are lost through injuries, decays or extensive dental treatment done in the past. Teeth that are broken below the surface or fail to grow sufficiently, such as a wisdom tooth, may also require removal in a more involved way.
We can carry out a tooth extraction quickly and gently. We will also ensure your comfort not only during the procedure but also throughout your recovery period.
If a tooth needs to be removed, we can also replace it with to rebuild your smile and restore your ability to chew.
Other occasions that require tooth removal may be before an orthodontic treatment commences in order to make room for teeth to slot into alignment.

ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT

Orthodontics treats malocclusion, a condition in which the teeth are not correctly positioned when the mouth is closed. This results in an improper bite. Treatment goals involve closing gaps between teeth, aligning and straightening crooked teeth and improving speech or chewing ability. Treatment may also be undertaken for cosmetic reasons. Commonly called braces, these can be done for children as well as adults. An esthetic option may be ceramic braces or clear aligners like Invisalign. Please ask us for more details.
POST CROWNS
A post crown is a combination of a post that extends down into the root canal of your tooth and a dental crown. If you have had a root canal treatment and the remaining tooth is weak, a post will help to reinforce this structure providing a more solid core for your crown.
Additionally, if a tooth has fractured off at the gum level, so there is nothing but a root stub remaining, we may be able to save the tooth by fitting a post crown. However, such a tooth will always require a root canal treatment first.

IMPLANTS

A dental implant acts as an artificial replacement for a tooth root. Once placed in the jaw bone, at the site of missing tooth it enables bone to eventually grow onto its surface, making it more stable over time. Once healed, the implant can be used to support a crown for a single missing tooth, a bridge for multiple missing teeth or used as an anchor for stabilization of loose dentures.
Dental implants are now an increasingly popular way of replacing one or more missing teeth as the end result can be very pleasing aesthetically as well as restoring the ability to chew food normally. Implants are free standing and do not require the support of adjacent teeth enabling better oral hygiene long term. They are suitable for most adults with good general and oral health.
You can often have the implant inserted at the same time as having the failing tooth removed. Moreover, it may also be possible to provide a temporary tooth instantly so you will never have to leave the clinic with a gap in your smile.
Loss of jaw bone occurs if a lot of time has passed since removal of a tooth. Inadequate bone volume can make implant placement very difficult and risk complications. Depending on the extent of bone loss you may be advised to consider bone grafting procedure to bulk up the implant site. Implant can often be placed at the same visit as carrying out bone grafting procedure.
Please speak to us before having any tooth removed to find out more about your replacement options and save yourself considerable cost & time. We can assess your suitability for dental implants and can guide you through the process.

IMPLANT SUPPORTED FIXED TEETH

If one has lost all their teeth or been told they need to have their remaining teeth removed, then it is possible to provide a full set of fixed teeth on multiple implants. We do need to evaluate your suitability for such a treatment and thoroughly plan your procedure beforehand.
The procedure on the day involves removal of existing teeth from the concerned jaw and strategically placing 4-6 implants along the jaw ridge. This takes place in a single surgical visit during a morning. A full set of acrylic teeth is then attached to these implants in the afternoon – and your smile is restored on the same day. The teeth will be replaced with a newer set once the healing is fully complete. Strict aftercare instructions must be followed for a successful outcome.

IMPLANT RETAINED OVERDENTURES

Implant-retained dentures are a cost-effective way of replacing many missing teeth.
Not only do they do away with the need for denture adhesives and pastes, but they also improve the aesthetics of the face and minimise wrinkles around the lips by preserving the remaining bone in your jaws as support.
A lower denture may only need two conventional implants to transform your ability to chew food, and smile with confidence whilst an upper denture needs a minimum of 4 implants to achieve this purpose.

SMILE DENTISTRY

A smile makeover is the art of improving the appearance of a smile by altering the colour, size, shape or alignment of the teeth. This may involve tooth whitening, composite bonding, crowns, veneers, implants either done alone or in combination.
Following your initial assessment, photographs and study models will be used to evaluate your smile & individual teeth and the least invasive method of achieving your desired smile will be recommended by your dentist. CLEAR ALIGNERS

Clear Aligners like Invisalign™ are virtually invisible orthodontic treatment that moves teeth using a series of custom-made aligners. Invisalign™ clear aligners straighten teeth as effectively as traditional wire and bracket braces, but are as clear on teeth as contact lenses are on eyes, making them ideal for anyone for whom discretion and ease of use are all important.
The treatment involves a series of clear aligners that look like a flexible, slim and sophisticated version of a transparent gum shield. These are changed every two weeks without the need for metal stuck to the teeth. The discreet nature of Invisalign™ (often no one knows the patient is undergoing treatment) means it is one of the most popular orthodontic treatments available for adults (including a number of celebrities – not that you’d know they were having treatment).
In addition, as they are easily removable, Invisalign™ aligners can be taken out for eating, drinking and brushing, making them a life-enhancing choice.
As with all orthodontic treatment, a retention appliance is recommended after completion of treatment to prevent relapse of teeth.

TEETH WHITENING

Discolouration of teeth is often a natural occurrence, although food and drink consumption undoubtedly play a part. Staining can be defined as intrinsic – when the inner layer of the tooth (the dentine) darkens, or extrinsic – when the enamel is stained. There are numerous types of stains; some are genetic, environmental or pharmacological in nature, but the most common cause are surface stains on the enamel down to red wine, tea, coffee, various foods and smoking.
Professional whitening is the only way to actually change the colour of teeth. It is a safe and effective way to improve your appearance, boost self-confidence and appear more youthful. It can be done chair-side in-office or we will customize trays for you to wear overnight with specially formulated whitening gels for two weeks.

COMPOSITE BONDING

Composite resin is a tooth coloured restorative material that sticks to the tooth to create a natural blend. Bonding is a minimally invasive smile makeover technique of improving the shape, size or misalignment of teeth. It is also the first treatment of choice for any broken or chipped tooth. It is often possible to do this procedure without needing local anaesthesia.
This can also be a more cost effective alternative to dental veneers.

CROWNS AND VENEERS

A crown may be required for various reasons. A tooth that is weak or damaged or has undergone a root canal treatment, may require a crown to restore its strength and function. Crowns can be made of metal (gold), ceramic (tooth coloured), a combination of both or metal-free zirconia.
Veneers are a conservative way of achieving smile makeovers. They are thin layers of porcelain or resin material placed onto teeth to improve aesthetics by masking discoloration, defects or misalignments. You will be involved in the selection of the material, size, shape and shade of the crowns and veneers to help achieve your aesthetic goal. With proper home care and regular dental check-ups, they will provide you with a long lasting and beautiful smile.
